To meet evolving consumer and farmer needs, the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) Artisanal Chicken program is for farmers who wish to raise smaller flocks. The Artisanal Chicken program is designed for farmers wanting to grow 600 to 3,000 chickens annually for select target markets such as local retail outlets, restaurants and farmers’ markets.
Artisanal chicken farmers meet the rigorous standards for animal health and welfare, food safety, worker safety and environmental sustainability as all Ontario chicken farmers. They raise their flocks in barns or on pastures to meet the different demands of different markets. They are proud to supply fresh, high quality products to their neighbours and local communities.
